ABOUT WCAO2025

Maternal mortality remains a significant global health challenge. According to the World HealthOrganization (WHO), approximately 810 women die each day due to complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. The role of anesthesiologists is crucial in reducing these numbers, especially in ensuring safe surgical procedures and pain management during labor and delivery.

In low and middle-income countries, the situation is particularly dire, with higher rates of maternal mortality due to limited access to quality healthcare and trained medical professionals. The Second World Congress on Obstetric Anesthesia aims to address these issues by bringing together experts to share knowledge, advancements, and strategies to improve maternal care worldwide.

WELCOME YOU TO THE SECOND WCOA2025

It is an honor for us to welcome you to the Second World Congress on Obstetric Anesthesia, which will take place in the vibrant city of Medellín, Colombia.
At this event, we bring together experts from around the world to share knowledge and experiences in the perioperative care of pregnant women. The anesthesiologist’s role is fundamental in this process, as their dedication and expertise ensure the well-being of both mother and child.

In line with the Millennium Development Goals, our medical community strives to reduce maternal mortality. Anesthesiologists play a crucial role in this task, working closely with other healthcare professionals.

However, we are aware that low- and middle-income countries face significant challenges in terms of maternal mortality and morbidity. Nevertheless, we are convinced that through training, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovation, we can improve care and outcomes for mothers and their children.
Medellín, known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” offers an ideal setting for our congress. Its modern infrastructure, warm people, and rich culture provide the perfect opportunity to share ideas and strengthen professional bonds.

Over these days, we will have the opportunity to share experiences, learn from experts, and establish alliances that will improve the care of pregnant women worldwide.

We appreciate your presence and commitment to maternal and fetal health.
Together, we can make a difference.
